Is everyone aware that these things don't float?

just wondering am I the only person who didn't realise this before taking it into the water.

It seems kind of obvious that it won't float, just looking at volume and feeling weight, and would be pretty easy to test if you weren't sure. Did you manage to retrieve it?

Nope, gone.

Just assumed it would float because my big slr in it's housing floats

Should have tested it I know, but not unreasonable to assume something made to go into the sea would float?

D'oh, bummer mate!

I think as it is not designed for use in the sea only they have prioritised miniaturisation over buoyancy as a design criteria. I know I wouldn't want anything bulkier mounted on top of my boarding helmet.

you can get life jackets for them on ebay. bit of overkill if you ask me unless you want to start playing with it in safety rather than leavingin it on the nose.

Yes the latest one is out, or else it wouldn't be the latest!

If, however, you mean the HD one that will soon be coming out, then no.

I've just ordered one of these cameras, has anyone tried turning the camera on the front the opposite way so you can see just the nose and the wave?

Some great footage by the way in this thread!

so latest latest lack of success with my go pro. Four long sessions over two days.

S1) New Litiums, empty 4gb card (With 4gb firmware installed)- I am leaving it on and recording prior to paddling each wave. I get about three waves and after about 15mins the thing hangs with the red light turned constantly on - completely lifeless! recovers in car aprk with removal of batteries
S2)Surfed tiny Gay Bay scabs so didn't use it as it did the above in the car park.
S3) Again New Lithiums and this time an empty 1gb card - same as above again, get two waves then it becomes un-responsive whilst switched on - removal of batteries sorts back in the car park. Bit irritated about this one has had a good session on my shortboard on my favorite reef.
S4) Again back down the road to meet a mate and have a fun logging session in knee high scabs. This time the 4gb card and new lithiums (thats around £6 of batteries used - nearly as much as the east coast parking). Anyway this time I turn the thing on the beach and just leave it running which it does for the duration of the session - at last!! This is defo the way forward just whack in a 4gb card and let it run.

Anyway it was a pretty small but fun session and I got..well I got a minute of trim in the small shorey....so I give you a very average
One Minute of Trim

bit shit that this is all I got from a good couple of days surfing.

I see they have moved to bespoke rechargable lithiums and 32gb card.

I fancy it but don't think I would do it justice. Also I don't trust the reliability that much after my first one and now this one giving me grief this weekend.

Some interesting ideas on that surf clip. Not had any hassle with mine since i started using Lithium. And Lithium Batteries

Can'y justify the upgrade, but be interesting to see how much they get used for allsorts now. It's amazing the technology they can get into such a small package.
