Any more of that sequence Mealy? Did he make it?

Zac, you can see right into the throat of that barrel if you look closely. I missed it at first. Nice shot :D

Thank Poo/Zac
I only took two shots and I think someone got in the way paddling out which messed it up for him when he was in the barrel so he ended getting pinched by the end section.

A lot of luck involved Zac but helps to have the surfer in the barrel, that way you get the blur of the wave but as the surfer isn't moving much he stays fairly sharp. Shooting into the wave like this is also a lot easier than panning.

Lostboy is right
I went for a long walk along the cliffs between tides and did some clambering down cliffs etc. That barrel wasn't a great spot tbh, looked a bit peaky and fast - I would imagine it never or rarely gets surfed. Stand on the cliffs all along the coast on days like that and there are reefs firing everywhere. oh for a ski plus time and ability.

I used the tamron 11-18 in that photo with a flat port but think i would probably get better results with a fisheye and dome port but i was pleased considering it was my first time shooting underwater images.

Yeah you should get some good stuff there especially with the fisheye as the water increases your focal length so i was too close a lot of the time but hopefully get some better stuff when i go to the maldives in june.... its a hard life isnt it!

This kid is renowned for being a bit of a trouble maker. I got to know him on my previous visit to the DR, I've seen him checking a guys pocket for money as he's hanging off them acting Mr.playfull. Anyways, he's a product of his environment (and from what I've heard things weren't easy for him) and for some reason I liked the kid, so when I left the country, I gave him my old 6'4 thruster and he began learning to surf. When I returned 18 months later, it wasn't money he was stealing, it was waves. He had to be in the top 5 surfers in the region, he could even be the best out on any given day. He obviously sold my board and bought a 5'6", an he surfed with more enthusiasm than anybody I've ever met before. I can't say for certain whether it was a good thing or not, giving him my board that day, but it certainly made me laugh to myself. After getting snaked on every wave by him, with "sssss sorry charlie, malo" "I wont do that again" It began to get tiresome, but I didn't really mind. It's his home break and I'd rather loose a few waves to this kid boosting airs than to anyone else.
