SPL dome port distortion

Postby johnnyg30 » Thu Sep 13, 2012 8:20 pm

Hey

I just bought an SPL for my 60D. The dome port which came with it has a spot in it which distorts when you look through it.
i have a 50mm 1.8 which i want to use with it, but that distorts really badly through the dome. Not sure whether it should do this or whether i need a flat port??
Anyway i was wondering whether the small distorted point is a fault in the design or will it go away if i stick a fisheye in it?

i think u find the 50mm won't work with it. Will distort horribly.

I remember my old spl dome port looked distorted when you looked through it but was perfect when shooting with the fisheye when all put together.

Sounds like u have then :-) was thinking about asking to buy it back off him as still haven't got another one yet. Won't be doing that now lol.

Itching to get in the water to shoot. Will have to dust off the 400mm and shoot from the beach this season.

Did he manage to sort the pistol grip in the end?

Grab ur self a tokina 10-17 fish if u haven't already.

Look forward to seeing some pics.

yeah he bought the new one from SPL but the plug into the 40D is different to the 60D so I've had to bodge an adapter to fit my 60D

yeah i'll hopefully get a tokina fisheye soon, for the moment ill be using the long zoom port you had made, can't wait to use it but just need some good swell!

Sorry about that Dan, you should have said! Yeah I sold it to Johnny with an uprated pistol grip and yes he'll need to get a fisheye to work with the existing port I think...
