tokina lens hood or not

Aloha, Im getting ready to buy a tokina 10-17mm lens, I have notice they sell one with and without the hood and I have no idea what the difference is between the two except the one without the hood cost a little more. Any help would be great! Mahalo

A hood is useful if you are taking photos and want to keep the sun off the lens and refuse flare and loss of image quality due to light reflecting off lens. If you only ever intend using the lens in a housing in the water it won't fit so so don't bother

Thanks for the help. I only intend using the lens in the water so I geuss I have to get the hood less. Why would the hood less be more in price? You would think it would be the other way around.

I missread that - not a scooby. All hoods I've seen are removeable.

The Tokina hood is fixed. I had to saw mine off to fit the housing.
They have zero benefit.
And quality is improved the closer the fisheye front element is to the dome port.
If you need to cut it off do it really carefully.

ah, so not removeable then. Makes sense as I guess 90% of people buying them will want a hood.
