Cheap good quality camera for someone starting out

Postby James1001 » Tue May 07, 2013 9:00 am

Hi, does anyone know of a cheap good quality camera for taking surfing photos. I'd love to but I don't have a camera.

James, what do you call cheap?
Have to say, just in order to help you, your questions need to be more specific, they are all a bit vague so the answers are likely to be general too. For useful feedback you need to tighten your brain up a bit!

For that much you will need to be looking second hand to get best camera for your money, and even then it's going to be a mid range compact. Have a look what's the newest Panasonic Lumix (or similar) you can get. Buy cheap buy twice though.

You might just be able to scrape a second hand SLR with a bit of a zoom out of £200.
I found this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EOS-400D-Digital-Rebel-XTi-10-1-MP-Digital-SLR-Camera-Black-/200917720600?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalCameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item2ec7a11e18 which is not bad (depends on condition though, also its the import but hey) with a longer than standard lens. Search around you may just find something. The Canon 400d is a very good camera for a beginner or anyone really, I know someone who has taken great photos with it.

Hi James, I've been getting into surf photography over the last couple of years and I've used a canon 1000d. It's an excellent camera for feeding your enthusiasm. I've been using the starter lens, EF-S 18-55mm, and also the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. This has been a great package for me and never let me down, it's lightweight and easy to use.
I've upgraded by camera body and I'm looking to upgrade my lenses too so I'm interested to move this set-up on to a new home.
I recommend doing some research and deciding what you want to achieve with the camera and therefore how much you can afford to spend.
