Oddballs, weirdos, and one offs....food for thought

Any discussion on shaping, designing, repairing and riding surfcraft of any type or shape. Also a good place to ask the 'what board should I buy?' question.

I am currently doing a fangtail, or my version of one at least....if I could own any board, it would be one of those, only 5 ever made by MP.... 8)

That bottom one is an identical outline to a board I shaped a few years back, same vee in tail too by looks of it, I just put too much roll through the whole board and made it un controllable. Still got the template somewhere, may have another go now I understand what I did wrong.

a functional memorial for the great MP...done in EPS-epoxy and some high-tech cloth, real blend of old and new, soooo bloody light and with a sweet flexy red tint singley...5'9" x 20 1/8" x 2 3/8" 8)

Would love to get a ride report on the fangtail.

More - would those nubbies be any good as side fins? How much you do a set of 2 for?

combined with a shortboard shapey - doubly unusual?

the twinzer felt good but when I added the Nubbin, well it was great, just felt like the right mix of hold and manouverability...just takes that little bit of side slip that can happen when ya push them hard, plus made it handle hollower and punchy waves better...when its softer and smalish, no Nubbin, its going sweeet....designed the Nubbin to be turned around for varied amount of hold too...Havent tried as side fins but have had them only on my almost finless boards and they are tons of fun....sideys on the right board would be interesting, maybe a 2 + 1 could be fun...might jjust have to try that one...
The Fangtail hasnt been surfed yet but I am lookin forward to it...its bloody light with the EPS -epoxy combo, much lighter than a PU with 1 x 4 bottom and 1 x 4 deck....will put up a report once I have had a few sessions on ot....dont think its gunna be amazing otherwise MORE would have been made, but I like em and respect MP as a designer and surfer so had to be done..... 8)

- oh yeah, the Fire-Fly twinzer template is heavily influence by the Fireball fish by Tommy P, the nose especially was borrowed from a 6'5" FB fish I have, dont actually like the board but love elements of it, so took the good stuff and blended it with other design features from other faves, so its a real hybrid of ideas...full dble concave feels good too...really well foiled fins with alot of tip flex give this alot of life and twang...I like twang.... 8)

I've just got myself a Hynson twinzer, it's the fastest board I've ever ridden... sonic fast! I've heard the stub fin helps with keeping the board from sliding out.

5'4" dim-SIM , bit hard to see but I have a hard bevelled rail in the back third, deep single concave, hard chiselled rounded square tail, very blocky rails in the tail...its an extreme version of my 'MORElease rails'.... 8)

I saw the red swinger out at the Bluff this morning and recognised it from pics I'd seen.
Had a chat to the owner about it.
Funny guy.

hi, more , please post as many pics of your boards as you can , its refreshing to see some of the stuff you are making , it obviously takes time away from making boards for customers and earning you money so you can see you are passionate about trying diffrent stuff ,
has the fang tail been tried out yet or is it for a customer ?
all the best , pete

A new batch from Kidman- deep channels and some solid V on these things. They're headed up this way and one is going to a mate of mine. so I'll try and get a ride on it!

yep, another variation of the mini-simmons hybrid, so many variations out there its great to see...
Fangatil waxed, leggy attatched but waves arent really playing the game and I dont wanna ride it in crappy or too small waves first sesh, hoping for something over next 2 days with small swell increase and favourable winds.... 8)

Hey Mark,
please post the pics of the asym you put on Swaylocks- the folks here should see that! Good luck with the Fangtail, the classic 'I need better waves to try this' situation is always a bit of an annoyance- nothings worth than a new board and 2 foot onshore mush to ride it in. Sadly the usual state of things here, new board or not!

yeah, but the Fangtail is a bit under volumed for me, so I really want a bit more push in the waves so its not an annoying surf, would really like to feel the board out in some 3-4 foot runners, but we will see....
few pics of the PT assym I have in my posession atm...
