Why do I need a tail on my surfboard????

No idea to be honest, - but pure fashion, me thinks?!?

Somewhere to tie a leash on?
Lots of people have them these days, so probably just fashion.
Not sure if you need Rails, Decks, Bottoms, Rocker, Glassing, Foam/Wood, Wax, etc., etc., either.
What we need is a surfboard that's trimmed back to the essentials.......

Excellent idea! Let's start a "Why do I need" section and we see where we end up with. We might even find someone on here to shape and ride the result!

A leash cup, a fin slot etc could also be placed at the front top of a surfboard, right? That would also eliminate the drag!!! We're going vertical here, me thinks!

Why go surfing?....totally eliminate drag by not surfing at all......be a vegetable and do nothing....eliminate everything.............ommmmmmmmm ommmmmmmm ommmmmmmmmm-------------------------------------

If you didn't have a tail where would the board end?

You could be happily ridding along and the tail would still be somewhere out the back!

By the time you'd made it to the inside effectively you'd have a pier

the tail is an essential part of every surfboard....
....without them these threads wouldnt come to life

The tail of a board is all about aerodynamic efficiency - of course a pointy tail is by far the most efficient.

I just mis-read that as 'ponytail'.....
