colour or clear

Any discussion on shaping, designing, repairing and riding surfcraft of any type or shape. Also a good place to ask the 'what board should I buy?' question.

Does it make any difference if a board has colour or graphics?

Majority of boards I see custom made seem to be clear. Nowt wrong with this but just wondering why it is?

Is there something that happens in the build process that is affected if colours are used?

Realise that shape and board dims overule the cosmetic stuff but just curious.

Perhaps it just adds cost onto the price and that puts folk off?

Its more work & mistakes/bad workmanship is easier to see

also most big brand boards are clear, maybe that has an influence

What colour's your car?

It's just down to preference. I can't stand artwork on boards, I like solid resin tints. One colour. Don't like swirls, patterns, sprayed artwork. It wouldn't put me off buying the right shape, but I wouldn't ask for it.

Spray on boards looks terrible as soon as you get a knock. A slight spackle will look a lot worse than on a clear board.

Mainly because it is more expensive.

There are trade offs too; boards can be sprayed before glassing which increases the risk of delamination, or they can have tinted resin, which looks great but reduces the strength of the laminate.

You can't surf a colour whether its nice or nothing, its about the shape and only the shape (plus your mind, so be mindful of the colour)!

In the visible spectrum red light has a longer wavelength than other colours and therefore covers more distance per amplitude peak, however infra-red which is invisible to human vision is slightly longer wavelength, so the invisible board is a little faster still!
