Morocco Surf Camps

Postby Lexman » Tue Aug 30, 2011 12:19 pm

Hi,

just wondered if anyone had any useful advice on which of the main players would be best for me. I'm a confident intermediate surfer and my priority is getting uncrowded waves each day, not so bothered about the party scene. I'm looking at SurfMaroc, Morocsurf and SurfBerbere at the moment, all seem to offer similar things...

Many thanks,

Alex

Went with surfberbere. A really fun, if not slightly shambolic group of guys. Had a blast at night and met tons of wicked people. They did make a couple of bad calls regarding surf tho. All in all? maybe 7/10

I stayed here with Denny in 2009 --> http://www.morocsurf.com/index.html scored incredible waves and got to surf one spot in particular at about 4ft with only four other people out. This guy has hosted Taylor Steele while making Sipping Jetstreams, Taj and loads of other pros and was one of the first surf camps in the Agadir region.

Here's some footage from our trip; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuHvx2nDiNs

Two of the guides I think have moved on but that doesn't mean the service has declined, they guides they have will still know the spots and tides and groups get split according to ability so you will get pushed but not asked to go out in hell waves unless you are up to it. Location of accomodation is a little out of Taghazout in Tamraght but I preferred that as Tag smells pretty bad!!

Yeah thats true, Tamraght is better as its quieter and safer than taghazout. Taghazout is cool but it does smell because of all the rubbish - its a sad thing.
Check out http://surfstarmorocco.com they are based in Tamraght too.

I have 4 weeks free this summer. Mates cant get the time off so looking at the possible options. What is Morocco like if traveling alone? How much is accomodation when over there, are there cheap hostels? would i be better taking my own board with me?

Travelling alone there is fine, if you do go, and summer is not the best time to go to Morocco) then go with surfmaroc and ask to stay at l'auberge, YOU WILL NOT REGRET.
