Add places (campsite, hostels, b&b's... etc) you have been to in the past, the good the bad and the ugly, and in 6 to 12 months this thread may have a substantial list of places worth checking when travelling in Portugal

North Portugal - Figueira da Foz.

Europes widest beach, home to Europes longest right hander (Buarcos) and Wedgy Harbour wall break Cabedelo which used to be on the WCT and there's no crowds - get in early and you'll have any break to yourself.

Also recently talked about by Kelly Slater in his commentry on the WCT as somewhere he really enjoyed surfing. Tons to do when it's flat (which is almost never) and top night life too.

For a super chilled place to stay with all the comforts of home (1€ per beer) check out http://www.fozholidays.com.

Check out the MSW Cabedelo pages for photos http://magicseaweed.com/Cabedelo-Surf-Report/193/

Hi,
Ericeira has been recently dedicated with the World Surf Reserve title.
And it was not by accident. Ericeira has the most amazing and consistent waves in Europe.
I´m offering my services as a local Ericeira surf guide and host, so if any of you thinking in coming here, feel free to contact me.

Hi all,
A very good mate of mine and his friend are in the process of building and opening a brand new surf lodge over in Baleal, Portugal ( right next door to Peniche). The building is pretty spectacular and has been designed in an eco-friendly manner. They are trying to do something different over there by creating something a bit more than a basic hostel/surf lodge. It's got some amazing things going on and will include a roof top pool ( amazing views of the sea) , a decent restaurant with locally sourced and freshly prepared food( this is still affordable and portions will still be nice and large for hungry surfers!), 25 rooms that are all individual ( some are like mini flats with lounges), a cinema room, a surf school that caters for large numbers if needed( all boards , wetties etc are there if needed) and loads of other things. They both really sound people and I'm sure will offer a great stay and experience. They will cater for beginners/improvers who want lessons etc and those of you who just want a nice place to stay whilst on a surf trip ( will be very nice - so would be a great place to take the ladies as well!). The best thing about the place is the setup waves wise. I visited them in Easter this year and despite numerous visits to the Algarve and northern Portugal I have not been to this part of the country. I was amazed at the variety of waves ( it always has offshore waves due to the peninsulas and has something for everyone -including crazy barrels at supertubos) and the number of options up/down the coast to lose the crowds and surf empty points. The other nice thing about this part of Portugal is that it is a bit greener that the algarve and the locals seemed way more friendlier.
Anyway I realise that this may not be everyone's cup of tea - but for those of you who want a bit of affordable luxury whilst on a surf trip this could be a good option.

Anyway link for the place is below - if you do book I have a discount code that will get you 10 Euros worth of food/ booze daily during your stay. I hope that someone finds this useful. Thanks
