New Zealand wetsuit advice

Postby Porthluney92 » Mon Dec 17, 2012 8:10 pm

I'll be on the North Island from January until about May/June.

I plan to surf all over (Taranaki, Northland, east coast) so I'm curious as to what wetsuit(s) I should take with me.
I have a 4/3 steamer and a 3mm long john but do I need to invest in a 3/2 steamer??

I do plan to spend some time around 90 mile beach, shippies etc so I know it'll be warmer there in feb.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.....

Also are there many surf clubs around? I'll be by myself so some company would be nice to have.

Cheers, Daisy

I've been living at Shippies for a year and I'd say you want a 3/2 until about April. After that your 4/3 would be good. Although I just use a 3/2 all year round and put a 0.5mm hotskin under it in winter. Not sure about further south. Obviously it'll be colder and your 4mm may be better.

Not sure about surf clubs but there's plenty of tourists and surfers up here in summer.
