June at A Bay

Just wondering what the crowd is likely to be like in June at Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka? Anyone been in recent years?

Hmmm, the height of the season at the countrys most famous wave? It's likely to be full of japanese kamikaze pilots, gangs of Isrealis fresh out of the military, and of course the local crew. Don't let that put you off though, you're sure to snag a few if you get up before dawn, and there's other waves up and down that coast. That reminds me, must watch the "Ceylon" sequence in "Sprout" again. :D

Well it might be a little quieter. Good luck if you go.

Haha! Is that a good luck, hope you'll score, or good luck, you're gonna need it?!

Earlier in the season is probably a worse bet. When I was there in June the sand wasn't right for any of the other points so the whole crowd was concentrated at the point in A Bay. I think as the season goes on more sand either builds up on the other points or gets washed off and then the options open it.
I had a couple of fun surfs every day while I was there but it was pretty busy. Most people where friendly and respectful in sharing the waves but there were a few Israelis and the odd Jap who would just paddle straight up your inside after every wave they caught and paddle for every set that came through, even after being called out for it.

Went late May in the year of the Tsunami. Agree with the second and above post. Early in season everyone crowds at the point. Only had 1 flat day tho'
