Do you travel with a partner or spouse who doesn't surf?

Postby Supafly » Thu Apr 25, 2013 5:58 pm

I was writing a post on my blog that gives 5 tips for surfers traveling with spouses or partners that don't surf. Since most of my travels are with my girlfriend these days, this has been something which I've needed to adapt. So I've been trying to get ideas from other surfers. How do you get as much time in the water while not neglecting your partner?

Has this been a challenge for you? What has been your solution?

Regards,
Dino

get up uber early, get 3 hours in , get back before you're noticed missing - then sleep walk half the day pretending your not tired and enjoying what nonsense is lined up for the day , on the understanding that you'll get in for a good sundown session 8)

I left my wife sat at Trestles in the morning cold wet mist, wrapped in a towel and a board bag as a tent...she loves it! :-D

The phrase "stop moaning you're on fucking holiday" is always useful.

I tell my Mrs that unless she wants an irritable cunt along with her then best let me have some fun. However, she still says I'm an irritable cunt once I've been.

These seem to keep em happy:
radio 4 and the sunday papers
fold up bicycle with vague directions of 'the cool stuff is thataway'
knitting
books
their mates

repeatedly tell them how awesome they are for letting you be oh so selfish and go surfing, then secretly check the surf forecast and announce a surprise 'today we do what you want to do!' when it looks flat. Act casual...

Did she managed to escape? They find it harder to get out if you close the zip with a cable tie.

It's not always so good when they do surf either. My ex was ok but pretty nervous so it meant that she wanted to stick around the lame breaks and gave me grief when I sneaked off to a better wave. Another ex used to just love sunbathing and reading which was brilliant.

I was considerate for a while and spent a couple of weeks not surfing so much, as she never said anything, but i kind of felt the missus was getting a bit pissed off with how much time I was spending in the water instead of with her. After these couple of weeks she goes out and she returns with a nice shiny new stick under her arm, hands it over to me and says can you go surfing again please, your a grumpy *sshole when you don't!

Honestly, it's a true story! :)

I'll have to try this technique.
