Pop Up on Shortboard

Postby cbass1981 » Sat Sep 30, 2017 9:20 pm

Hey everyone,

I am now slowly transitioning down to smaller boards and realized that the pop up becomes somewhat more tricky when your feet dangle in the water instead of being on the board. So my question is, when you pop up, instead of having pressure on the toes on the tail, do you have pressure on the knees when popping up? I want to get to the point of doing everything in one fluent motion instead of putting my back leg down first and the popping up..

Any help is much appreciated,

Sebastian

Have a search of the forum...this has been covered many times.

In essence, you don't pop up. You lift your hips with your hand by your rib cage and swing your feet underneath you. It's all about getting your hips out of the way.

One "fluid" motion, the knees don't come into it.
Try it on dry land, just like the surf schools.
Practice makes perfect, good luck.
