Surfing With a Broken Nose

Postby pablolantic » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:46 pm

Hi all

I recently took my first steps into the surfing world, however over the weekend I was assaulted on a night out, resulting in my nose being broken. Obviously, in my current state I cannot surf, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend anything that I can do to ensure that I am back on a surf board ASAP. Time scales? Protective masks?

Thanks.

As thoughtful as that is, it's probably going to be suspect to heavy rusting...

You back in the water yet?

I wore a cap pulled down low to protect my snoz from getting bashed and only surfer small waves - this was two weeks after I have my broken nose pushed back into shape!! never mind the ops to have the septum fixed...

I've had the op for the septum - septoplasty - had my nose broken on an xmas eve night out and tried to forget about - until a year later i couldn't breathe so had the op to get it fixed.

Hopefully you're back in the water? Basically it depends on the damage sustained -if you've had a break and had it reset within a week then you should be ok after a couple of weeks to get back in - depends how the internal membranes are - Post op i was out for somewhere between 4- 6 weeks - can't remember exactly as it was ages ago...

Without a gimp mask you won't be able to protect it - but if you're unlucky to get a pop in the face from a board pretty much nothing with stop it getting rebroken - wouldn't worry about breaking waves of tho - more likely to pick up an infection if the membrane hasn't healed properly. Salt water baths are good for it - the sh*t and pollution probably isn't

Hope that helps... now where'd i leave that mask and ball gag...?

I was the same - broken nose (alhtough i did mine in an ungainly aerial dismont on a 5 foot day), then two septum reconstructions because the first didn't work.... how are those splints coming out afterwards!!! Horrendous!! Size of credit cards up each nostril... anyway I can breathe now.
