Learning Material

Postby Veos » Sun Feb 12, 2012 2:31 pm

Hello there,

Was just wondering if anyone knew of any good learning materials for surfing, for those days where there aint no waves.

You know things like
- Good websites that teaches you how to judge surf conditions.
- Films / Documentries about surfing
- Magazines
- Any place / materials which will help you expand your knowledge in surfing and the way of the waves.

Thanks for the help you will give me and possibly any others who are looking for more to learn.

The surf simply podcast vids are really good and well worth a watch through.

http://www.surfsimply.com/podcast/

The catching waves one really helped me work out what was going wrong a lot of the time for me and why I ended up nose diving rather than catching the wave more often than not...

They also have this pretty nice 'tree of knowledge' - http://www.surfsimply.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/surf-simply-Tree-Of-Knowledge-poster-for-Cafe-Press-23-x-35.jpg

There is a proper poster version on sale (ref blog entry http://www.surfsimply.com/podcast/the-tree-of-knowledge)
I quite like this as what it did was give me some ideas for specific things to try out while in the water which was nice if I was getting fed up with what I was doing - e.g. on a heavier day where I struggle to get past the white water I can try some new things out in the white water rather than destroying myself to get out back and then struggling to do anything useful when I get there......
