LONGBOARD SINGLE FIN (dORSAL STYLE) 9" UP TO 10"

Postby BigBlackDog » Fri May 24, 2013 11:45 am

I have recently purchased a 9' 2" Longboard and am looking for a 9" or possibly 10" centre fin. I have been advised that a 9" farberow or 9.25" skip frye flex fin would work well for the board.

I am 6' 4" and almost 15 stone so looking for a larger fin.

I currently have a 8" Nineplus fin that I would be willing to sell/swap/part exchange.

I have not had a longboard before so any advise would be much appreciated.

The Skip Frye might be too small for you, depending on what the board is and how you want to surf it. The farberow would probably be a better choice, or something similar. True Ames do a 9.5" Farberow also.

Cheers for the advice Phil,

It is a 9' 2" Local Hero Glide by Frank McWWilliams 23" wide 3" thick.

As I am new to longboards I will prob be riding it with little style, Probably looking for a fairly responsive turn.

I will obviously attempt to hang 5 but am not holding out much hope.

Cheers

The Skip Frye would still "work", but you'll be slipping about a bit on the face of the wave and the board will feel looser overall.
Stick with it and you'll be hanging 5 in no time. Learning to cross-step will get you there and back much sooner. Sounds dumb but practice on flat ground to get your body familiar with the movement, then it will be second nature in the water. Oh, and watch lots of Videos with Joel Tudor in!
