Advice on Excel Suits

Need people's advice on hood v no hood for surfing this winter on Donegal coast. Water Temp down to 8Degs (46 F) Air temp down to 0 Degs (32 F)

Considering an Excel Infiniti 5/4/3 2012 model - no hood

v

Excel Infiniti 5/4/3 2013 model - with hood

Would I get away with buying a separate hood and using it with the hoodless suit. Would it still provide similar warmth to the suit with a hood, or will I notice a big difference/ water flushing etc.

The Hoodless 2012 suit is £100 cheaper

£100 for a hood though, surely not? Have you confused the Infiniti with the Drylock?

If you're going to be surfing in water cold enough to require 5ml, then it will be cold enough to require a hood. Shop around for an old model if you can find one.

The hoodless suit is 2012 model and is on sale at £189. 2013 with hood is £289. Both Infiniti 5/4/3's

or just buy an xcel hood for £25 and save £75 ?

8 degrees isnt cold enough to require a built in hood

I say get the cheaper one and spend the difference on a good hood. If you are prone to getting cold then get a thermal rashie with attached hood for the real cold days.

It'll still work out cheaper than the hooded xcel and you'll be toastie warm. Probably too warm even!

Just don't make the mistake of getting a hooded vest with long sleeves, they weigh an absolute ton when they get wet and your arms will be wanting to drop off before you've even reached the line up. I got so hacked off with mine that I had to cut them off!

i cut the hood off, its a 1mm thick piece of crap.totally useless

Absolutely 100% get the hooded option.

Absolutely definitely no doubt about it - get a hooded suit. Don't fanny around with a separate hood as they are never anywhere as good.

i got an excell polypro hooded rash vest long sleeve £50, and due to its thinness i don't notice the additional wet weight. really warm and personally worth it.

I'd avoid Xcel altogether they fall apart really quickly and their warranties are worth shit in this country.
