Nineplus summer retro full suit

Postby DukeOGinge » Sat May 04, 2013 4:57 pm

Good, bad, indifferent?

I have an e-bomb for the winter and a very old ONeil summer steamer, it's time to invest in a decent summer suit for those ever regular East Anglian summer waves. Heading over to Devon in the summer and thought I might pop into the shop in Bruanton and try one on. They don't seem to come up second hand, is that because they are amazing and people keep them until they fall apart, or do they just fall apart?

Cheers

Darren,
I've had a Nineplus retro suit, Short arm version since last Spring, used it right through until October,
it's a 3/2, very comfortable, and extremely warm, being single lined it sheds water quickly and on the sunny day we had last year its hot enough.
no problems with seams, construction, etc, just be careful with the single lined,
it's probably the best summer suit I've had.

still some bargain price ones on ebay, perfect if you are super sized or super small. almost tempted to gto eat cakes, i'd love to try one for that cash. just bought a yamamoto single lined swim/tri suit and compared to all my surf suits its another league in fit, flex and warmth.

A few years ago, the sizing on their wetsuits was waaaaay off.

I'm a medium in every other brand, but I've got a well fitting long-sleeved shorty from Nineplus that clearly states XXL on the label.

If they are from that period, then who knows??

I actually wore it for the first time this weekend...very impressed...although only a 3-2 it was much warmer than the 5-4-3 Ripcurl I've been wearing...and that's saying something in the north sea.

I normally take a XL in the Ripcurl but this Nine plus is a XXL...a bit big but i wore a rash vest with it and it felt fine.

Worn it last week. Very toasty in it. ZERO water penetration, a bit restrictive, and a bitch to get off, but after a few early mornings it was fine. Absolute steal. I'll be honest, I've been that impressed that if I were ever to buy another 5mm, I'd seriously consider the top end Gul.

Size wise Ed, I wear a LS. I'm a fatty now. Inland family life has destroyed me, I'm a bit barrel chested, 42, and a 34 waist. Only 5'8, My Xcel is the same size, this fits perfect too.

my sentiments exactly, was'nt sure if it was the suit or me being used to wearing chest zips for well over 10 years, and even then super soft ones that last just 6 months. the gul does seem really solidly made.

does seem to be breaking in after a few wears and getting more comfortable. the neck has been my biggest issue, loads flushing down the back if i'm not careful yet if i try and tighten it it chokes me.

for 100quid though total bargain.

Got it yesterday...rubber nowhere as good as the nineplus but it looks pretty solid and very warm. Getting it off is a pretty major feat though

I've had the nineplus. A few of them. Agreed, they don't look near as nice. But the nineplus ones I've had have all torn really easily. Little nicks here and there. Never gone through, but loads of tears on the surface.

Getting it off after a 4 hour session was near impossible. Always surf with a friend.
