Entry level suits - Rip Curl or Xcel?

Postby Jack_hale » Sun Oct 18, 2015 4:55 pm

First post on here after doing some reading. I know the general wetsuit brand debate has been had a lot, and in particular Rip Curl and Xcel discussed.

The advice I am after is ....

Currently deciding between this years (the newest model) 4/3 Rip Curl Dawn Patrol and the 4/3 Xcel Axis X2. I live in SW France, looking for buget wintersuit. Currently have a 3/2 e-bomb for summer / fall and really like it. Plus loads of Rip Curl outlets hear so easy for repairs or issues etc.

However a lot of guys on here love Xcel so wondering if its worth a change?

Has anyone had any experience with these particular suits and would reccomend / advise against one? Have tried both and fit well, and can source here for similar price (15 euros more for the dawn patrol)

Open to suggestions of other suits. Looking for a warmth over flexibility really, but doesnt get too cold here (12 degrees).

Thanks in advance for any help,

Jack.

I'm still in my 4/3 Rip Curl Dawn Patrol up here in Scotland - I was seduced by the low price.

Short review : keeps me warm & doesn't leak or flush - neoprene is stiffer than my Xcel and seams are not finished as well.

Good enough budget suit - should last a couple of years
