Where to go if Watergate Bay is Maxed out?

Postby IvannaHumpalot » Tue Mar 26, 2013 8:49 am

Hi All,
I'm going to be at Watergate Bay over the easter weekend and the surf report is showing HUGE surf.

As 14ft offshore is a little (lot) out of my comfort zone
I was wondering where a more sheltered spot could be found in the area,
something that would be a bit smaller?

If I had a choice, a little left-hand point break would be sweet. Not that I'm picky ;-)

Thanks,
Ivanna

Newquay bay is the obvious choice but likely to be a zoo because of that. Don't know how far you want to travel but the swell is just south of due west so for more options look at a map for places sheltered from a westerly onslaught.

What about going north along the coast?

When watergate is busy/big, I tend to go up north (google map is useful) than going into Newquay...

This weekend is Easter, but with the bras waves and baltic weather forecast, I'm hoping that it'll be less crowded than an ordinary Easter weekend...

There's a lot of south in the swell, so it won't be 14ft. Even if it was, Watergate wouldn't hold that size.

Thanks Peeps,
I have a car so I might take your advice and cruise North, see if I can find myself a little left-hander...

I know where there's a BIG left hander
If the wind goes East rather than South East there are south coast spots. Alternatively, go to the pub and surf Sunday and Monday within your comfort zone. No shame in that!
