Punk, rock and metal rules!!!

Down
L7
The Distillers
Black Flag
Pantera...

...never fail to get me amped! But my list could go on and on...

Pop and R&B artists should be tied up in a cement bag and sunk to the bottom of the sea. You can stick all the fake arsed punk bands in there too... sell out boy, panic at the disco, my chemical romance et al! Don't get me started... just been to the dentist so I'm in the mood to vent
I f**king hate R&B! Why is it so popular? I don't get it!
...waiting for the turning point

dont try and put me in abox maaaaaaaaan.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pWGKzgUCNzs - kinda punky i suppose. love this album. newest one 'abnormal' is punkier, but also rubbish (imo)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lxjhal0CJ ... re=related - this is what i call punk!

seriously though, i never really enjoyed proper punk. too much anger and politics and not enough musical merit. The only punk bands i really got on with were the likes of NOFX. You just can't beat those harmonies!

edit - http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=t ... mb=0&aq=f# re. above: a punk epic!
ededit - just watched the above link all the way through. may not be work safe, or for kids, or those of a nervous disposition. you have been warned

What the f!*K?

Why does anyone think that there is a right or wrong genre of music to listen to as surfers - there is a distinct relationship between certain types of people and their musical tastes - but fundamentaly speaking there is 'good' music and 'utter shit' in all genres such as below

Rock - Led Zeppelin/Stones - Good/ Nickleback/Bryan Adams - Shit

Dance - Chemical Bros/Basement Jaxx - Good - 2-Unlimited/Bass Hunter - Shit

Country - Johnny Cash/Willie Nelson - Good - Daniell'o'Donnel/Shania Twain - Shit

Folk - John Martyn/Woody Gutrie- Good - Cant think right now as im not that into it but there is a lot of shit out there

Reggae - Bob/Toots/Peter Tosh Good - UB40/Chaka demus and molegrips - Shit

Punk - The Pistols/Buzzcocks/Peter and the Test Tube Babies/Iggy Pop - Good - Green Day and all that west coast college shite

Dont even start me on Indy - Kooks/Wombats/Fratellis/Scouting for girls because they can all get fucked.

Anyway i think you will find that surfers on a whole have a good taste in music - i do find JJs success very amusing though hes quietly smiling thinking....mugs! good on him i would do the same he goes out for around 100k per show now.

Ah but proper Indy, Stone roses etc, and all the 90's proper indy britpop was some of the best contemporary music this country has ever produced

So, all you old punks out there... are there any bands that have come out, say, in the last decade that you thought have been punk enough to call themselves so?
