Bruce Irons splits from Volcom ...

I'm kinda walking a tight rope here given the amount of sarcasm dominating the forum of late .... However ...

Now I'm not really one to care for which surfer is sponsored by which company but ever since I can remember, Bruce Irons has kinda been the 'face' of Volcom ... In the same respects that Slater has always been associated with Quiksilver.

Today's news of him departing Volcom was a bit of a shock & for him to be headed to MBK was an even bigger one!

Given that MBK don't have the most highly respected status amidst the surfing community do you think it was forced or chosen? & what may have been the factors?

Volcom's budget been capped?

or

Is Volcom making room in the budget for a certain Mr JJ Florence?

Any thoughts on it all?

May 4th 2011PPR, parent company to Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, and Puma has bought Volcom today for an estimated 608 million dollars.

No idea if that has anything to do with it, maybe he was asking for too much or they are taking the brand in a new direction?

Seems to be dying down a bit now, folks not getting enough waves and getting plenty frustrated with the dark nights and shite weather I reckon!

Ref Volcom, they do seem to have got a bit more fashion in the last year or two, the anti-establishment image doesn't seem to come through as much as it did, maybe I am just not seeing it in the public stuff I am exposed to. Don't get me wrong though, I love their stuff, was in the Volcom shop in Camden in September, some lovely clothes in there, real nice winter coats and that and a really friendly shop keeper, invited me in before they were open and gave me a cup of tea!

Would be sad to see Bruce go from Volcom but with JJ (??) maybe coming through it keeps the youth ripper image going for a new generation and maybe we'll actually see more of Bruce in a new environment.

on the rare occassion i buy stuff its not on any other merits than cheapness, ethicalness ,comfortableness..

this isnt, for me anyway, got anything to do with clothes etc. Its about the natural human curiosity i have about a personality, a surfer in this case, who i find interesting for one reason or another.

The fact that he jumped ship from volcom interests me enough to have a passing conversation about it..whats the big fucking deal? If the thread said slater leaves quiksilver! would you be preaching to the thousand or so posters on that thread? do you think they would take notice?
