Stoke surf today!

the big tides ruined any chance of that swell settling on any banks....it was almost messy so much water swirling about. i got proper twatted by a few lips and got a headache from it....and my morning trip to find a point was ruined by the wind.
oh well....nice to see some power
will crack out the longboard today

Think I may have shared the lineup with you over your way yesterday, Surfrat...

Paddled out on the beach about half twelve but got smashed and headed north to find a rip near the pipe. Got a couple, but was using a proper board - 6'9" pinny. Even, then, I got caught inside a couple of times. Could have done with one of those Wavejet things for a couple of paddles

I love big days like that though... not because of the waves, really, but more because there was hardly anyone around and you have so much space.

I think I might have been watching you for a bit yesterday Archy. Fair play for trying, I didn't fancy it myself, all looked like a lot of hard work and a bit of a mess. Was pretty solid though.

Had a sweet couple of hours today at Cgate over low tide on my new board. Punchy, super glassy, really quiet and loads of fun. Stoked.

Today looked a lot more do-able, but I was tied up and couldn't get in...

Think I remember someone with a green wettie - there was only a couple of guys out. Where you mostly just at the south end of Combesgate?

Been watching a few clips of that big swell they had in San Fran and it put's our local beachies into perspective! That place must be hard work...

yeah i was down south end towards shit pipe on monday....looked the biggest but the current wouldn't let me get near the peak then all the ones i had closed out or i ballsed up

I'm assuming Archy means this clip of Ocean Beach SF https://vimeo.com/58345611 - looks like an absolute heaving day! Takes some commitment just being in the lineup with those beasts throwing out around you. Was nothing like that when I was there autumn before last, does pay to drive up/down the beach if you go there on an average day though - one end could be weak and dribbly then further down there could be peaky fast A frames.

Has a look at Widemouth on Monday and didn't fancy it at all, big random lumps guillotining down all over the place - no-one out. Got penned in working yesterday but caught a few this morning as there was still some juice out there and the wind wasn't too bad- moderate cross/offshore, maybe waist and a bit on the sets, real fun on the mini-simmons I've been getting into over the last couple of months.

I know that Puerto, Pascuales and La Nord etc get huge, but there is something about OB that Seems to remind me of surfing the beaches around here in the winter; the colour of the water and the way the waves break.. the shiftiness, I guess.

My cousin and his wife have lived in SF for years, but I just haven't managed to get over there yet.

This was seen from a walk along he coastal path near Luz. No path down. Would take a paddle around from an accessible cove but one for the future in a macking west swell. nice lines but I don't think surfable on this day.

Same day arrifana, boat in the distance sets the swell height and if you know those rocks then you know how big this swell was. The boat was really hanging back before gunning to the port in a lull. Bit wooly this day, still got a deep cut amd bruise from a wipe out when the board twatted my arm (lucky). Following days were flawless, zero wind. One guy out on his own at the time this was taken.

Love Arifana. I try to get there every year if I can. Some nice swell in that photo.

My biggest ever wipe out was there in 2008. Got eaten in a huge barrell, out by that big rock, near the point, did 150 plus yards under water and came up by the harbour wall. Was two years before I took on another big wave there. Here's a Phot from back in 2008 the day I wiped out. this is right out on the point, so if you know the place you can work out the size of the swell

Here's another from along the coast at Carrapateira earlier in the day and this is the shore break. The big stuff further out was much fun for an old bodyboarder. This guy didn't catch a single wave by the way. Just gut mullerd every time he tried.

First after work session this year. Friday evening surfs are so good even if they're crap - its a great way to start the weekend! Yeah wasn't a very good surf for me tonight, bit lumpy and warm... hell it was so warm! Must be the asteroid/meteorite effect!

First really beautiful morning of the year yesterday, it felt like summer! Glassy smooth and way too warm at times!

Had a lovely little 2ft peak all to myself with perfect little A-frames rolling in every 5 mins. Perfect! More of that please for the rest of the year!

Unexpected fun at high tide this morning. Nice shaped peaks, light offshores before the wind picked up. Seems like the swell arrived early.

First after-work surf of the year today at a South Devon spot as the sun went down. Broke records (and probably wetsuit seams) getting changed faster than greased weasel-sh*t off a shiny shovel in order to get in the water as fast as possible.
Caught a few, ate a few, but dont seem too rusty overall after a long spell up North! Happy with that

After the very very disappointing sesh from monday I changed everything yesterday.

Minimal, 4/3 suit with fully charged quiky vest, different hood, gloves et voila, a great sesh. No crowd, 4' clean, off-shore, beeeeeoooootifullll...................

Today smaller and closing out a bit too much but still very good. Happy camper.........

6-9ft light offshore @17secs at a beachie and then went to a point break on me 4.11 sims, sun in blue sky, in da water with a mate couldnt ask for more in life

I know you should always be glad for what you have but I could'nt help thinking wishing that it was a bit bigger!
