Powl's instructions for a homemade firework...(tried and tested in the mid 80s - dug out of archives for the seasonal recreation of the scallys on my street, 2004)

> Take one tin can, the kind with a sealing lid like a paint can (or
golden syrup).

> Get a comic, like the beano, roll it up and put it in your back pocket
(this will come in handy later)

> Make a hole, about the width of a biro, in the lid of the can

> Place a couple of handfulls of gravel, rice, or small nails into the can

> Seal the lid (not too firmly)

> Turn can upsidedown and hold it over a gas stove ring for ages, really
close so as much gas goes in as possible*

*(alternatively, if you're posh and have an electric stove, you can go
to the local shop and nick a can of buthane gas for refilling clipper
lighters - squirt the whole thing into the hole)

> After about 5 minutes, put your thumb over the hole

> Take the firework into an open space

> Remove thumb, and immediately light a match or lighter over the top of
the hole (if you've gone for the nails or the gravel it might be wise
to turn your face away at this point)

> Run away and hide for a few hours, so your mum doesnt catch you. This
is where the comic comes in handy...

What's the purpose of the gravel? Is it just to inflict as much bodily injury as possible? In which case, you want to be using bolts.

Homemade fireworks, though... how much fun? Cue anecdotes about craters and blown out windows.

This year, I *will* be keeping my eyebrows...

I personally favour the old biscuit tin and exploding custard powder routine. This works well if you substitute a polystyrene fish box(small) for the biscuit tin. DO NOT do this indoors.

the only decent trick i havn't heard about allegedly i think - was to not put a bit of petrol in an empty braso tin and then don't screw a working spark plug in the opening - then without the help of a freind (you need to not use his car) never open the bonnet, or take off one of the ht leads from the cars sparkplug - don't give said brasso tin a good shake then do not fit the ht lead on to it -try not to place tin in a convinient space by the engine then shut the bonnet - next step isn't to get your friend to start his car and hey presto the bonnet doesn't blows off - allegedly perhaps !

i'm a science teacher by living - now banned from doing the following (health and safety my arse - whats a couple of burst eardrums between friends.....)
mix washing up liquid and water in even parts in the bottom of a biiiiig sink. place a tube from a gas tap into it and turn the gas on, and leave it on until half the sink is full of bubbles of gas. then, get an oxygen cylinder and a tube, and fill the other half of the sink with bubbles of oxygen. (hse guidelines say no more than 200 mls of this mixture can be used - i've got 40 litre sinks........................). now reitre to a long distance and lob lit matches in the general direction of the sink - you'll know when ones landed!!!!!!

no need - all ya gotta do is have a bath with bubble bath in it and fart - the you can light the bubbles and because you're underwater, you're safe --- good way to impress a new girlfriend

well as it happens yes - but my ex was a bit of a nutter and could guff and belch better than me - she was good lookin too !!

required:

one large campfire, to keep warm and to provide 'priming heat'

score cards , to award points.

next spend an hour or so combing the strand line for various bits and bobs.

Take them back and one by one throw the various aerosol cans, butane lighter refills, hair product sprays etc etc ont fire, and score explosions accordingly


Some Aussies at Freshwater West took this game to the n'th degree by lighting a campfire in the brand new stone and slate toilet block, placing a camping gaz cylinder on top of it and retiring to a 'safe' distance. The explosion took out the block, their campervan and most of their hair.

lol, aussies are some of the craziest people i have ever met, i new one called grrg who drove the wrong way up the bus lanes in his car just to wind up the bus drivers for being cut up by them on the roads.

Stay well clear of those blue camping gas cylinders if you value your life...

Spud guns are still the best... Tube, butane gas, orange or spud etc...rammed in the end - kinda like a cannon!

Freeze ammo for more destructive impacts! (like paintballing - you dont wanna get hit by a frozen pellet - OUCH!)
