Surf Guitar

Anyone here into proper surf music?
and i don't mean Jack Johnson or Xavier Rudd, I mean proper guitar based surf instrumentals.
Shadows, Ventures, Dick Dale, right through to the modern take like Los Straitjackets etc etc?

Eh? "Surf Music" ? "Proper Surf Music"?
As opposed to what? Improper Surf Music

Can't be doing with all these genres, sub genres and sub sub genres.

There's just two - "Music" (stuff you like) and "The rest" (stuff other people like)

or possibly three - I nearly forgot Myles Kennedy (or God as he is known in our household)
Godrevy; Just like surfing. but smaller (and without the power)

Take that as a no then!! Ha ha
Mate I've been through them all, and music is music I agree!
But Yes there is such thing as proper surf music, it originates from the late 50's and is specifically guitar instrumental with heavy reverb. Bit of an old guys thing I suppose ;)

Just to confirm, by "proper" I don't mean what I personally consider to be surf music, I mean the actual style of music that coined the phrase "surf music". I guess we all have out own preference, here's mine :P

"Jazz/Surf/Reggae" works for me. How about these dudes?

The "Ray Barbee Meets The Mattson 2" album does it for me every time.

Jimi Hendrix once said, 'Surf Guitar is dead'. How wrong he was!
Apart from instrumental surf music, The Beach Boys music is timeless. 8)
