Small things that make us happy

Postby insideout » Wed Jan 30, 2013 4:29 pm

Enough of the whining and moaning already, we need a happy thread to counterbalance the 'things we hate' thread!

This made me happy this afternoon! -

Was typing an important e-mail to a company, something along the lines of....

'Please find my CV attached'

Anyway, i had finished writing the e-mail, forgot to attach the file and pressed send.  :?

This was all done on hotmail, which saved my ass. They now have a service which detects the word 'attachment' and if you try to send the e-mail without attaching anything to the e-mail it will prompt you as to whether you still want to send the e-mail despite the fact you haven't attached anything to it!!

So thank you hotmail for saving me from looking like a helmet! simple things i know!

Two happy things happened today:

Got my payslip today (not paid until Friday though), 1% increase on my salary back dated from August 2012! I wasn't much after tax, but nice to have a pay "backdated"

I always say thank you to everyone. I went to the usual small Tesco (sorry, there's nothing else around) this morning for my breakfast bakery. I know most of the staff there through my regular visits but I don't chat to them like "mates". At the end of transaction, I said "thank you" as usual. And the staff said "aww, you're always polite". She made my day. I don't say "thank you" for this reason, but it was nice to be appreciated for my small gesture.

Thanks insideout for starting a happy thread. ha.

I always say thanks to son's nursery teachers when I pick him up, I've noticed I'm the only parent who does. It must be a hard job dealing with 20 or so 3 year olds every day, and I appreciate him getting handed back in one piece.

I helped out a few times at nursery many years ago, it was pretty much hell, some of the children were awful. I always remember one girl from a particularly poor household, when I passed her something she looked me in the eye and said "Thank you!" - after that I made sure she never missed out on anything. Its amazing how manners can help.

I'm a sucker for good manners too. It is such a little thing but often overlooked these days, so it's always quite nice when someone says a "please" or a "thank you", especially when you're not expecting it.

Also, I'm just about to finish my shift and I have a nice 6 days off ahead of me which makes me a very happy man - Studying, a bit of gaming and some time in the pool (sorting out my paddle strength/stamina ahead of my next Cornwall trip in a couple of months) is making me grin steadily!

Thank-yous and positive comments are rare for sure. Everyones quick to complain never to complement which is why it was so great to have so many people leaving public positive feedback and thanks after an event we ran last year.

One of my regular clients, favourite by a mile, has passed me some work this week. 3 banners. "What do you want on them?" "Up to you, whatever you fancy"... Pretty wow....

Today, the guy who gives me the bread and butter workload comments on a few jobs I did recently then drops a bottle of vino on my desk, which I'm 3/4 of the way through...

Chuffeded I am...

Ive known this old fella Mick for about a year, real uncle Buck sort of character, odd job kind of bloke, trees felled, logs allsorts. I promised him a load of scrap from work if it ever comes up, about two weeks ago we had loads so I called him the night before and arranged with him to collect it in the morning which he did. I got a text later that afternoon saying 'when I get home, check the path at the side of my house theres something there for you' Got home and theres 30 large well seasoned rounds of hard wood. Hed also gone on a 25 mile round trip out of his way to drop them off :angel4:

You reckon? Yesterday I asked him what he wanted and he insisted on Fruit and Fibre. So got the last of the box, hence I got the cheerios today.
