Anybody recommend a good reasonable web hosting company

Postby Monkey_Alan » Wed May 15, 2013 10:23 pm

calling all computer geeks and interweb nerds

as the headline says - can anybody recommend a reliable, good-to-deal-with, reasonable web hosting company?

dont really need loads of bells and whistles just the basics, good up-time stats, preferably unlimited bandwidth, simple to use control panel etc... long term might well need ecommerce, sql databases etc etc so the option to seamlessly upgrade would be a bonus

...and for everybody else who thinks all that stuff is really boring here is a picture of a fit girl :D

Have a look at Rackspace. Not the cheapest, but their support is unbelievable, their tagline is "fanatical support" which i thought was a bit wanky at first, but they do live up to it.

I do only use them for server hosting as opposed to site hosting, but I expect the support is just as good.

There is a uk arm www.rackspace.co.uk I can't see the website offering on there, but might be worth a chat with them.

Webfaction are amazing (http://www.webfaction.com/) and have a European site. I've managed a friend's website on United Hosting for years - they're OK but don't have SSH support which sucks (http://www.unitedhosting.co.uk/). This question was asked at work recently, and someone recommended 5quidhost as a budget option (http://www.5quidhost.co.uk/).

Bored? Here's 30 secs of bodysurfing shacks. http://vimeo.com/62909899

Just incase anybody wants to know - I signed up with a small host called my.vidahost.com

They got lots of good feedback on various forums and the pricing is good. Already logged one support ticket and the response was very good
