Take hard drive out, scan & fix on other computer. Replace and try again. Not easy to say other than that unless an accurate sequence of events is known.
If there's nothing much you desperately need just reinstall windows. Borrow Xp disks off someone if you have none.

If you can't get it to boot into safe mode you are probably screwed.

What model is it, some of these netbooks don't even have a proper hard disk.

If you go into the bios, is there a disk checker option, proper laptops have them but netbooks might not. If there is run it and see if there are errors.

Seen any S.M.A.R.T errors over the last week or so on boot up?

Do you need to get any data off of it before you restore it. if so the ultimate windows boot cd is a godsend:- http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm you will need another computer and a copy of windows to create the cd though. If you can't do that then the linux equivalent (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) is also good but a bit more complicated.

Cheers Kamikaze, It's an Apire one three years old, no cd/dvd recovery disc btw.

Currently running Acer eRecovery Management. Got there via F12. Don't ask me how but I know what the F stands for

All files are being moved somewhere safe and the restore seems to be in progress........

Everything crossed..........

Back everything up to an external hard drive now!

There is a warning on the front of your netbook that it can fail unexpectedly at any time.

This warning is the letters A C E and R. (Awful, Crap, Extremely Rubbish  )

Our ACER laptop went the same way recently.

Interestingly Chris I didn't lose anything......

The gremlins kindly put everything into a backup folder which I eventually found. Erecovery worked well in this instance.

The netbook started up as if it had just come out of the box so had the pain of loading all favs etc again.

The system recovery effectively restores the hard drive to a disk image taken from the time the machine was built, hence why it looked like it did when you first bought it. Backup any of your important files as it may be a sign of impending failure :-)
