Surfing Andalucia

Does anyone have much experience of surfing in Andalucia?

There seems to be plenty of quality set ups but I am wondering about the consistency there as I here mixed reviews. Thinking of going there in April/May as the start of a long roadtrip. Kind of the the classic Euro trip but in reverse. instead of heading south following the sun in the Autumn/winter, but starting in the south and heading up to be in France around the beginning of summer. Followed by a September in Ireland if all goes to plan!

April will be very hit and miss. i done the past 2 winters down there. it's like a mini morocco but more swell sheltered and more busy too! seems the crowds doubled from 2011 to 2012. 2010/11 was a jackpot season down there and loads of head high or bit bigger swell and it was sick. last winter was howling off/cross shore levante winds and shite all swell.

But...the waves are good, scenery nice and culture amazing. nothing like sitting in the beach bars in el palmar watching it go off with a beer! so check it out, go visit Jerez and Cadiz for sure and if you get some swell then you're laughing but iin that time of year don't hold out for it. Best from November to March....

and I guess the later in the year you get there, the less consistent it gets. Been to the region before, but only spent a brief amount of time around Tarifa in January a few years back. I loved the region so would like to see more and go back to Granada and visit Cadiz. Think that I would do some exploring in the mountains and cities, and head to the coast when there is a bit of swell forecast. Will be heading through Portugal and Northern Spain throughout May and June so more likely to score there I suppose.

Whats the most consistent stretch along there?

El Palmar picks up the most and is near Cabo Trafalgar which has lots of nice breaks and wind options. the beach break in Cadiz can be fun around high tide too. Conil also has ok beach breaks. There's some points and reefs if you go looking!

I'm going to el palmer in october and found best flight to gibraltar.

Has anyone ever driven this route? I know jerez is closer but cant get a good flight at a resonible time

it's hour and half from Gib, nice drive along the coast to Tarifa. easy peasy. Actually easier than the nightmare roads around Cadiz from Jerez. Still only hour half from Sevilla too

Yeah looks like it would be a better drive from Gib, rather than Seville.

What ever is cheapest and has better flight times though I guess.
