o'neill wetties - rg8 vs psycho, flex/warm?

Postby gavtheoldskater » Sun Oct 14, 2012 6:44 pm

anyone know how rg8 compares to the psychos in terms of flex. durability and warmth, winter thicknesses?

had a look at psychos today but i'm put off by the back zip as i've only worn chest zip for the last 10 years. the shop did'nt have any rg8 to compare.
a world of waves and a world of ways to ride them!

I tried them on the other day but couldn't get the chest zip over my shoulders. I opted for C-skins back zip again. Although the psycho felt very warm and very light it was short in the body for me. The C-skins is way thicker. I can't get the hang of chest zips, just too much messing around to get in/out of a suit.

I have a Psycho 2 5/3. Nice suit, well made and stretchy....nice neoprene. Good suit for summer but no way could I survive in that over autumn/winter in Scotland. Only buy Xcel now - best in my opinion.

Theres not alot in it in my opinion. I dont like back zips much so prefer the rg8. Its a heavier and warmer suit though as has that lining all through it whereas the psycho is just on chest and back. Both very flexible though.

i have a Psycho 2 5/3 its an excellent suit although not quite as warm as my across the shoulder xcel.

As long as the neck is done up properly no flushing .... :)

I Think the psycho 2 suits are double seem welded vs the rg8 single (could be wrong)

Yes the RG8s are internally blindstitched with outer fluid seam. I bought a 4/3 last week. Pefect for this time of year

What about the psycho 1 that just come out? Is it warm enough for full winter use, got no chest or back pannel....

Going for this or Xcel Infiniti

I own a wardrobe of oneil suits. I have a 5.5/4 rg8, 4.3 psycho II back zip, 3/2 psycho I & a 2mm guru. Love every suit.

The rg8 however fits better than my psycho II. It was designed to provide flex in all the right places, especially in the upper back and shoulders. However, I do think it could be warmer. I am considering buying the rip curl h-bomb vest to keep me toasty when it gets super cold. (38 degree water with the air at about 10 degrees).
