places to visit summer 2013

word! have about 4 weeks to spare to go on a trip next august (school holidays, missus is a teacher) anyone recommend somewhere with good surf and a bit of the beaten track?

Central America. Buy a shitty old 4x4 and camp it up around Mexico. Learn some Spanish though.

Hebrides. You need OS maps to find way back to beaten track.

I wouldn't do hebrides in summer. Midges and you may well get skunked for surf, its better when there is swell and the bugs have gone. The weather will probably be bad regardless of when you go October was when I had the best hebrides trip..

Guess we got lucky. Mid august - surf every day (a couple of days were a bit onshore). Only midgy one afternoon. Won't say we had good weather all the time though

No doubt autumn would be better though. Will definitely get a cottage next time, and not camp.

It's all about the kids. There's a nice cottage for rent in walking distance of Europie beach I have my eye on.

Last trip we did was pre van - vango family tent didn't cope too well with atlantic storms!
