Good TV or Jumped the Shark.........??

Postby Philshoz » Wed Dec 26, 2012 2:17 pm

Meant to start this thread a few days ago with the run up to Crimble.

As an old biased git I feel some(a lot) of TV has had its day and this is a place to tell us what you think.

X Factor....every pre performance has enough flashing and noise to set off an epi.....
Celebrity anything but mainly the shite in the jungle.
Big Brother, double shite for wannabee future celebrities....
Dancing on Ice.
Britains got Talent....................allegedly.

On the plus side:

Homeland.......but better improve for season 3.
The Killing.
Inspector Montelbano.
Spiral (Engrenages)
Basically anything where you spend two hours reading subtitles...... :? :?
Frasier.

I gave up on homeland after episode 2 of season 2, far to convoluted and unlikely, I can see why some would like it though, it was well made and the firest season was pretty gripping.

Must don't get tv or film. It's all pretty shit. I don't really get into or enjoy anything except a bit of match of the day and good comedy

Am I weird??

Weird from a mainstream perspective maybe, but I'd see that as a healthy thing. The dumbing down of T.V. content continues day by day, with a few exceptions. It's all just the same shit dressed up different ways. Social conditioning, and something to fill the gaps between adverts. Charlie Brooker hits the spot.

Agreed WP, wayyyyyyy too many ads. Even the Beeb spends a few minutes self promoting in between programes...

Best way is to record everything then skip through.

Case in point, last night, Midsummer Murders, ads every F****ing 10 mins nearly.

Feeling bereft of good telly......

No Breaking Bad for a few weeks (watched 62 episodes in just over a month, how sad is that   )

Ditto Game of Thrones, not on for a while yet...

lost interest in Treme, got a bit dull.

Top of the Lake............can't decide about that one.

Jumped the shark: why would anybody watch Big Brother?

Because they've had a lobotomy?
Because they are deaf and blind?
Because someone chopped their head off and placed it in front of the tv?
Because their life is sad?
Just a few possibles there off the top of me head.
Never growing old together...

I've just watched the 2nd Top of the Lake. Think I'll just skip through the last one, to find out who did it.

Its one of those "its all about the characters" series. Unfortunately the characters are all awful. The lesbiand in the shipping containers, are all insane yet boring. The billy connaly wannabe has to be the crappest bad guy ever. And the cops are all zero personality (well at least realistic I suppose)

Just catching up on Earthflight that was on BBC a few months back in glorious HD on the new telly 8) It's flipping great, but then I'm a sucker for great nature programmes. Wild Sahara was amazing too.

I seen the lead English actor ( Walking Dead) down at Polzfornia last year, he was in the Conezone getting icecream for his kids wearing a wettie and yellow beanie... I first looked at him and thought 'what a dick', then I clocked who he was, looking back I'm still thinking 'what a dick'... His Nannie was pig ugly as well.

Fargo is shaping up to be a good bit of TV.

Just finished True Detective. Really,REALLY good. Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, some serious tension in there. Brilliant acting.

Don't miss Panorama Monday night. The story of a guy from the Isle of Wight addicted to foam and glass, looks interesting... (sorry Dixie  )
