OK, nothing to do with the noble art, but it's got my goat, so I'm going to bend all your ears about it too....
Stupid pseudo-science-horsecrap formulas... like this one:

Maybe at first glance, the assemblage of letters looks ok, but...
here's what's wrong with it (click)

Incidently, Ben, would it be possible to fiddle with the .css so links stand out a bit better in forum text?

Can anyone tell I'm not very busy today :lol: :lol: :lol:

It is interesting that the researchers probably got a grant to undertake this work. From whom and why?

The formula is complete tripe but the majority of the general public would not really question its integrity. So why not get paid to sit and watch films for two weeks a blurb out some mumbo jumbo at the end. I know i would

Formula for ideal surf film:

log(nW+nS+nB)+(nW^2)+[d(fTs)/d(fTa)-d(rTs)d(rTa)]-0.5*(tWS+nDI)+(nGB^3)+INT[(Kw*Wv)dT]*K=F

where:
nW = number of waves riden
nS = number of surfers
nB = number of boards used
fTs = sea temperature in film (degrees C)
fTa = air temperature in film (deg C)
rTs = sea temperature here (deg C)
rTa = air temperature here (deg C)
tWs = thickness of wetsuits worn (mm)
nDI = number of drop-ins
nGB = number of girls in bikinis
Kw = mean wave vector (m^-1)
Vw = mean wind velocity (m s^-1)
F = enjoyment of film (in Centi-Yeahs!)

and K is a constant, given by the closed-path integral of the reciprocal board fin length (in mm) for the total noseride duration (in seconds)

The invoice is in the post

What about the zaniness of the soundtrack and the gnarl factor of the waves?
