Brisbane surf spot info

Postby insideout » Thu Jul 09, 2015 11:48 am

Alright going to be based in Brisbane between August and December for work.

What's the closest surf spot/kite surf spot?

Can see noosa etc and Sunshine Coast aren't far away (80miles)

Really looking for the closest break to centre of Brisbane for before and after work sessions etc!

I'm going to be on the Brisbane river literally right behind Brisbane airport!

Cheers en

I used to surf Currumbin a lot and Burligh heads all around that coast think it's about 45 mins from Brisbane.

That sounds like a sweet job!?

Yeah man got super lucky with this job couldn't refuse it. Looking at the maps I'll have to buy a banger to get around a bit I think!

Current boss is from Oz he's giving me the low down.

Was hoping there would be somewhere close for morning and evening surfs/kiting!

Nice one, getting the job in Brisvegas, as you can see from the map Moreton Bay is blocked off from the swell by Moreton and North Stradbroke Island, there is a break on Bribie Island called Woorim, which is probally the nearest break going north, the nearest decent surf (north) is Caloundra and South is the breaks at the top of the gold coast.
The traffic on the main M1 (pacific highway) north to south is always busy but is horrendous at commuter times. Have been literally stopped for ages, this can be worse than the M25, due to all the new suburbs built just north of the airport, so you may not have time before or after work, but have seen kite surfers at Wynnum and Manly just south of the river. Just check into a backpackers on your time off in Coolangatta, crowded but after a few waves on the 'superbank', you'll be stoked. :-D
