Utterly ditto. Shoulders are rattling. Resorting to more foam.
Still in there though! :-)

Sore shoulder but that's ongoing.

For me, this is the first winter I've not immediately shifted the post Xmas pounds! Feeling a bit fat, and with the belly it's harder to breathe lying on my board! What's going on?!

weight/fitness is fine, its just that i just cannot be assed to go surfing.

i still like surfing a wave, i just increasingly cannot abide all the idiots that accompany it these days.

Haha! I feel your pain there....was surfing a peak on my own the other day, and some guy paddled out and proceeded to snake me on his first wave!

I'll be 48 end of April, getting worrying close to 50. Every climbing session, every surfing session feels like harder work and hurts for longer afterwards.

Maybe, but at 105 full respect to him.

Most 70 year olds would be too worried about breaking bones to even get on a bike.

I'm still in my 50th year 8) the biggest issue for me is my flexibility & recovery time. Injuries take a lot longer to heal than they used to - I can paddle for 3 hours no problems but I need to keep moving all day after it otherwise I am stiff as f*ck. Got a Groupon deal for 5 Bikram Yoga sessions, the sweaty hot ones - 1st one this Thursday :-)

I'm with Leven on the Xmas chub - I now take a bit longer to shift it , usually gone by early Spring - it's an insurance policy mate for illness & cold water

Motivation is not a problem for me but my injury-prone youthful days are just giving me the world's biggest hangover now I'm a bit older... ibuprofen, steroids, poor sleep, chiropractic treatments are regularly on the menu now.

Even with a good diet, plenty of stretching/yoga and trying to exercise in different ways, the body I pushed when I was younger is starting to push back!

Sitting behind a desk 7.5 hours a day, and getting in the water maybe once or twice a month do my body a lot more harm than the actual age.

Its the month we go to full rubber that gets me. No matter how well I've been surfing up to that point its like I have to relearn how to surf.

Like Leven some young guy paddled out over here in Portugal and went inside of me and then again and again and again in marginal waves. I asked him if he'd ever read a book or learned about surf etiquette or waited his turn for a wave and he replied he doesn't believe in queues and does what he wants - in a voice that wouldn't be out of place in Eton. I said in over 20 years surfing I've never called anyone out but your behaviour, attitude and demeanour is the worst I've ever seen.

He gave more mouth so with regret (probably more about a chip on my shoulder) I said "fuck off posh boy". He went mad going "I'm not posh, I'm not posh" ad infinitum. I got a laugh from that at least.

People in the carpark said he's been pissing a few people off over the last month.

Had a few great sessions when he's not been there and at Zavial this last week but still wound up when he paddled out today but tonsillitis got the better of me after an hour so I lost the will to engage in paddle battles. Had been a nice 90 min sesh with just one other before then.

Getting old, grumpy and lacking patience.

Nice one. You did exactly the right thing and called it as it is. Surfing needs more of this. :salute:

I agree....

Funny though - if you do challenge anyone for good reason, you still run the risk of being equated to Tone from Point Break these days, some kind of Neanderthal local....

Yeah!

When I rock up (out of breath) with my longboard, my paunch, and my male pattern baldness, the young upstarts soon fall into line!

My neck cracked so loudly today I thought it was a gunshot - I actually looked around for a surfer with a gun!
