Will the best wetsuit be good enough?

Postby Kookie » Mon Sep 17, 2018 4:51 pm

10 years ago I was living in the UK and having major trouble with the cold. Numb feet and hands. White toes ready to fall off. The suit was a pretty good fit. 5/4/3.

I might have to move back from warmer climes.

I now have a custom NoLimit 5.5/4.5mm steamer. Due to my poor circulation I think that'll be ok down to 12c but I need below 10c - ideally 6c should feel ok.

What's the best wetsuit money can buy and will it be good enough?? Would that be a Snugg with some kind of add-on heating element?

Have you thought about buying a heated vest?

What hood, gloves and booties are you using?

If you have cold feet, put in a hat....

You lose more heat out of your head than anywhere else.

Definitely!
But does that mesh good with a custom suit? I mean, does it need to go under the suit or can it go on the outside?
If I got one of these would I need to make a new custom suit?

That's the bit I don't understand.

Yep, I wear a hood - custom, came with the suit. I find the hood annoying but yeah it makes a difference. I've just got nerve damage so I feel the cold.

The thickness wouldn't impact too much with your suit.

I have raved about mine for the last four years on here. It's a Quiksilver with two panels on the kidney area and has two heat settings. Good for a couple of hours.

Great! If it's that thin then I'm definately gonna check that out. No need to buy a new suit and add this is pretty sweet

cheers

edit:
Actually, did you find using one of these heated vests allowed you to go with thinner rubber?

Agree with Phil re the QS vest, worked great, only used 3-4 times on low when really cold,(In UK) but the batteries did'nt last, i got one spare from East Coast USA, and that packed up after one use, lithium batts cannot now be sent airmail, but you can take on aircraft, just insulation tape on the terminals. If you can get hold of a battery (QS Cypher vest) and you are a size medium, you can have mine, just pay postage (from Oz)

Result Kookie, buy it off him.

I have found that you have to tighten the charger really hard to make a contact but mine still works after five years.

Email QS, St Jean de Luz to see if they have any batteries
