You can tell it's election day, as this non-story has gone national, even global. Glad to say it was not me! :-D

My wetsuit has been in the back of the car for over a week. Then after a 2 hour surf yesterday, while rinsing it out I noticed it had shieldbug eggs on it. They must have been there since I took it off the washing line over a week ago! To my knowledge the first creatures I've ever taken for a surf.

Sea lions on Tofino, they may seem cute but those things are vicious! A friend got attacked by one.

At the risk of sounding animal geeky, it's just an otter. in the UK, all otters, whether freshwater are seawater are the same, just some live near fresh water, some live by the sea (but still need a source of freshwater to wash off in).

Sea otters are the ones you get on west coast of America. they are enormous by comparison, google for pictures.

That aside, they are beautiful creatures regardless, and a pleasure to see any time.

Keeping the bird theme going : A Short Eared Owl flew right over us today. It got chased over the sea by a gull.

Maybe they thought you were a mate - did they try and mate?

Seriously though I am jealous of that encounter but I suspect my wetsuit would be brown afterwards.

Amazing! So lucky. I surfed Muizenburg in SA once, and had dolphins going one way just behind lineup, and Southern Right Whales going the other.

Was surfing in Ireland a few weeks ago. Surfed 5 different spots and saw seals at 4 of them. At one spot there was a youngish pup that was getting really close and was following the surfers as they were paddling back out after catching a wave. Was the first time i saw a seal getting between surfers and the beach, of course big mamma wasn't far away, watching every move.
