Wel done Magicseaweed team.

Woah. Just goes to show how things work out.

Probably didn't make much money for the first 7-8 years. Then made a little...and then get bought out!!

boom amazing work.

Who cares about the forum being invaded??!! it will probably be killed off I wouldve thought

Not making any profit but that doesn't mean too much...

would love to have been a fly on the wall

I guess profit and value don't have more than a casual relationship really :)

This may significantly improve SurfStich's presence in the European market and give them content platforms to drive click thru traffic on three continents, can't be bad.

Nothing will happen to this forum for the foreseeable future, the acquisition has to complete and that will take a little while and they'll have to figure out what systems to integrate. Then we'll know if anything will happen, either that or you'll turn up here one day and it will be gone!

You might speculate on the value of the forum's continued existence but there's not much point in that until someone says what's going on!

The forum was one of the key value assets in the deal. Nowhere else can you get excellent advice, intelligent discussion, and rapier-like wit in one place.

“SurfStitch chief executive and co-founder Justin Cameron is hopeful that in addition to reducing the company’s reliance on external marketing channels, the two acquisitions will deliver revenue synergies as content on both sites will drive sales to SurfStitch and promote repeat visitation across all platforms.'

Agree chimp.

When I went to look at surfstitch it offered me Surfdome.fr with an instant 20% reduction and 600 different companies represented.

Who can match that?

I love that this has all started from a fascination for surf forecasting.

Ben et all prob never even write a business plan!

Now they are millionaires with an ongoing stake in a huge company

That's an inspirational story for a couple of surfers from South Devon??

I love it. Total respect

If that were proportional, Matteboy and theDeadly would own the company between them....

Fair play to them. Be interesting to see what the Aussies do with it. Often large buy outs aren't actually that successful....

I wonder if they'll start charging for forecasts like surfline do? Might clear the line up of anyone who can't read a chart....!!

That's hilarious!

Is that most time spent on line or most posts?

I've learned a lot from this forum. Not just surf but my use of this forum has coincided with the explosion in social media and other digital comms. This forum helped me to adapt nd understand how people comm online.

.....yes will be interesting, but prior to their backyard business in Manly in 2007, JC was an investment banker, and with the purchase of swell.com thats Oz, Europe and the US sewn up, just South America to SURFSTITCH UP

OPEN LETTER/ MESSAGE TO BEN!

We'll done guys it's been a pleasure to see you grow!

Thank you for all of your efforts over the years. Thanks very much for your focus and determination. You deserve all of your success and long may it continue.

A few questions if you don't mind so that others can learn.

1) what has been you biggest learning about customer service?
2) what would you do differently?
3) what was the biggest challenge?
4) did you ever feel like you were wasting your time? If so how did you keep going?
5) what advice would you give to others?
6) what now?

Good luck to them I say. You would think if the forecast became pay per view the traffic would dive bomb and that would have a knock on for the content, which only recently has become really good quality imho.

As for the forum, I am sure it's users are seen as desperately uncool but that is part of the appeal to me and as Danny says there is some great content added by users.

with regards to local surf shops being doomed….it is the consumer than ultimately sends them under. If you care about keeping local shops open then you should buy from them, even if the price is a little higher. If a faceless big company under cuts them massively, then just don't buy from them.

(agreed, its not easy to get that message across to someone that has tried surfing once and doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a new wetsuit etc)
