I like the tri, but he's missed one of the basic tenets of multihull design.........

KILL and KISS

[keep it lightly loaded , keep it simply simple]

Looks like a micro-barge!
Ocean-going multi-hull craft need to be big to survive, that thing looks like a death trap. With its high weight and the intrinsicly low bow bouyancy of a trimaran, I wouldn' like to be on it in a big following sea. Reckon that guy has spent too long watching "waterworld" and not enough time watching "the perfect storm". Give me a high displacement steel monohull every time.I like the idea of a boat that rights itself, that thing will dig in and flip too easily. Cant see it surviving in the red heart of a big green scripps onion! :shock:

:shock: I suppose you think that was f**king funny?! I was running out of the door before I realised that it was the P C making the noise and not the sodding pager!
I now have to deal with the huge squirt of adrenalin that is uselessly wanging round my bloodstream! Thanks a bunch.

I suspect it will never go offshore. I have no problem with the basic tri design, but I'd want a lot more beam and length before going anywhere 'interesting' weather wise

lol! had the same effect on me! on the plus side, have saved the file to my comp, so any time I fancy an hour or so out the office, I can just play that and foxtrot oscar!

just right click on the link and choose "save link as" or something similar...
it took me half an hour, a cup of tea, two biscuits and a smoke to calm down when it first got me. The other week, when I was away working at a lab, all the technicians there had pagers with the same beep. I felt like a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory!

My rule is "hope for the best but prepare for the worst" i.e. remove two hulls and add one keel! It takes one hell of a storm to sink a good mono hull and they usually selfright(unless you are Simon LeBon of course!) :lol:

Yeah but his keel fell off. The argument of heavy displacement monohull vs low displacement monohull flyer vs catamaran vs tri has gone on for many years.

Multihulls have shown that they can go out and survive the worst the ocean can throw at them, in the right hands. Hi tech monohulls are just as likely to fall apart and disappear. Heavy displacement boats have their place, mainly low speed, load carrying blue water cruising.

My cousin - who designs boats for a living [he did Ellen MacArthurs Kingfisher and the Global challenge yachts] sketched me a 50' alluminium ketch with lifting keel and rudder [to get over those reefs], short handed layout and all the goodies you'd need for extended, no-need-to-find-a-marina cruising. Medium displacement we reckoned that with carefull use of composites the boat would be light enough to surf in optimum conditions, yet tough enough to take it on the nose.

Never advanced it - too expensive, even with sourcing the ally hull from Poland. *sniff*
Another pipedream bits the dust.
