This kid is renowned for being a bit of a trouble maker. I got to know him on my previous visit to the DR, I've seen him checking a guys pocket for money as he's hanging off them acting Mr.playfull. Anyways, he's a product of his environment (and from what I've heard things weren't easy for him) and for some reason I liked the kid, so when I left the country, I gave him my old 6'4 thruster and he began learning to surf. When I returned 18 months later, it wasn't money he was stealing, it was waves. He had to be in the top 5 surfers in the region, he could even be the best out on any given day. He obviously sold my board and bought a 5'6", an he surfed with more enthusiasm than anybody I've ever met before. I can't say for certain whether it was a good thing or not, giving him my board that day, but it certainly made me laugh to myself. After getting snaked on every wave by him, with "sssss sorry charlie, malo" "I wont do that again" It began to get tiresome, but I didn't really mind. It's his home break and I'd rather loose a few waves to this kid boosting airs than to anyone else.
