Post Your DIY Stuff

Pissing with rain all day Saturday so decided to make a log burner out of a propane tank.

Probably cost all up £16 - for stove paint, nuts and bolts, hinges. - could have saved on the bolts if my welding was any good.

1st burn below to get paint off - then sand, still have to paint it .......

Your bit at the top could be a large flat horizontal metal section commonly called a "hot plate" and then get cooking - mushrooms, veggies, eggs, bacon etc. Like the carburettor/spin wheel. I'm sure I've seen something similar recently.

Today I made a replacement extractor fan cover out of bits of waste wood to replace a plastic one that fell down from the bathroom ceiling and broke (bits got lost) - cost was mainly time, 2-3 hours (plus some wood glue and panel pins/paint). Sorry no pics. What's the alternative? Buy a complete new fan & cover to fuel the consumer society showing what a wealthy country we are by increasing the GDP? If it had been our own domestic use I probably wouldn't have bothered but its going in a public place and the public needs protecting from themselves!

I may take a pic when its in situ, if it looks ok!

Nice one Black - post up the pics, I have two external plastic fan Xpelair jobs thatr were smashed with snowballs that need fixed -...

On the log burner front - I sat in front of it , realising the opportunity I'd missed putting the chimney out the top and not mounting a flat plate.

Only bonus on the cooking front is when the fire burns down, you can put griddle, pan etc into the stove - not ideal

Nice work J, just in time for sitting outside in the evenings after a good surf with a bottle of Rose.

On a bigger scale of DIY I have finally finished our shower room. A LOT of French houses don't have facilities upstairs FFS  So this small box room was ripe for change to service the four bedrooms.

Construction of bouldering wall in garage about to commence - it's going to be big. Hope it doesn't bring the roof down

Good luck with that Chris.

Talking of lenses (well caps) I'm tackling one of these at the weekend. http://paulov.com/2011/02/canon-99-erro ... ragm-unit/

Got the lens as a freebie with a camera, 23€ for the part from China and could be worth 175€ when done.

That's what I was talking about what's wrong with mine, its fiddly but you just need to be brave! There's a youtube video you may want to watch too (just remembered that's for the older lens). This is definitely a design error which needs sorting (if they haven't already).

Me & Harkii and 2 other mates - assembled it ! It came precut etc. we just did the meccano - piece of piss really. Harkii did the hard part putting the base in , whacking the road scalpings, whin dust screed then slabs.

p.s. me & the youngest cut a piece of mesh to fit in the stove - wait till fire settles down, put mesh in - square sausage for supper on Tuesday night, last night we only had 2 pieces of bacon to cook but I swear it was the best tasting bacon ever

added bonus of stove is the ring I cut off (handle of propane tank) that I used on the top of the chimney pipe to stop water going down, acts as a smoke diffuser and keeps those bastard midges away

Going to build a 30 deg board, 2.4m wide by about 3 m high. Got a beastmaker fingerboard, but it gets boring!

Think we are all having a bad one.

Stripped the lens down, re-built, TWICE, now it works but only in Manual mode...

Off to the Canon forums.

Very Germanic strip down there Phil - liking the labels  Looks like a fucking nightmare of a job.

I spent all weekend putting decking down in front of the shed - sore all over, hamstrings have shortened by about 2 inches  and missed the East Coast waves ........ surf tokens mounting up, due a wee shuffle up North :-)

Hasn't worked though J. I tried tinkering with the flat cables on the mother board to no avail.

Gave up, put it up for sale yesterday for 50€ and it sold, quick snap. One guy even offered me 60€ after I had committed to a sale, tant pis.

Have you got another lens yet?

I have been looking - you've just reminded me to phone some lassie off Gumtree , though I think she advertised the lens at the wrong price, maybe not , worth the call ..... keep you posted.

Before you take the shower switch apart to find the problem make sure you photo the wiring or you might end up with some head scratching when it comes to re-wiring it!
