Trip To France - Two Weeks - Ideas

Postby beaner01 » Wed Dec 09, 2015 12:45 pm

Hi All

This year we had our first trip to France and stayed at a lovely campsite near La Tourche. Two weeks of surfing if the weather was a bit iffy at times was great. We are going back next year but would like to travel further down. Family of four but the two kids are 12 and 16 one of which is a competent surfer. I am looking for ideas of areas and links to campsites if poss. The criteria is - Going in August as only time we can all get off together, family friendly campsite as tent it, close to beach with surf, looking for a little warmer then Brittany so maybe Lacanau area poss. The wife does not surf so need to find SUN for her and wine which is not a problem.

I look forward to any ideas and help you can give.

Cheers
James

Priced the ferry to Santander and it is £1500 for August. I got ferry, two weeks camping and a bit of spending money for that in France

Head to Bordeaux, then just go West. There's SO many beaches, big and small. Lots have caravan parks/campsites right next to them too. If you're worried, or want to plan lots, check out:

The Yelloh campsite at Lacanau sounds like what you are looking for.
Personally didn't like lacanau ocean so much. We head further down to Moliets, which is in striking distance of Hossegor, Biarittz, and San Sebastián for Pinxtos.

Camping Le Saint Martin is behind the dunes so on the beach.

I stayed at Le Porge a few years ago. Not a lot there except a small village a drive from the beach. Went to Lacanau one day, my wife asked why we weren't staying there. After the second trip, she found Lacanau tacky. Better surf at Lacanau, though more crowded.

Since then we've gone further south. Around Hossegor-Biarritz there are a lot more wife things, Biarritz especially. Lots of non-surfing options as well as waves. It's also a short drive to Bayonne and other places your wife might like.

Having villa on beautiful Cote d'Azur, where I began learning to stay on the board, I am driving to Brest (France) and Santander (Spain) for big surfing.

Hello!
Havn't tried yet the beaches of France for surfing. Maybe I should try it as soon as possible.
